B-o-r-i-n-g!!! - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
I am a huge fan of the first SpiderMan movie, so I figured that since the second one got an "A-" from the critics...I was like, "Wow". This must be some good movie. My friend and I went to see it and it was so boring. Nothing was good about it...I kept checking the time like every 15 minutes hoping it was soon to be over. Don't waste your money. Wait til it comes out on DVD/VHS to see it!
Spider-man 2 soars high - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
It is amazing. This film really soars in every way. The story, directing, acting, cinematography, and score are all incredible. It truly is a sequel that has proven that not all sequels pale in comparison to their predecessor. I am so excited about how well it was done.
In the packed out auditorium at the midnight showing, everyone cheered the moment it started. Danny Elfman?s score has been pumped up for this new installment and sounded absolutely amazing behind the opening credits. The story just propels from here. Every detail about every moment has been taken care of and each character has grown so much in the past two years.
Tobey Maguire was once again perfect as Peter Parker. Ever nuance of the tragic hero was perfectly played without shame or reservation. He really got better during the two years that passed between filming. There was such complexity of character that really made him more human.
Kirsten Dunst also was great at playing M.J. Thankfully her bright hair was a little more subdued this time around but in no way was her acting or characterization subdued. She really brought a new level of emotion to her character that went beyond the screaming of her first screen attempt. Not saying that she wasn?t great in the first one, but this time she really hit her role head on.
Alfred Molina: what can I say? He was such a great villain. Like Maguire and Dunst, he also had such a great level of depth and he really seamlessly jumped into the Spider-Man franchise with panache. You will love to hate him.
James Franco was a great best-friend-turned-tortured-enemy. It was sad to see the destruction of the friendship that Peter and Harry shared. This really enhanced the film and tied it in nicely with the first one.
The rest of the cast, including Rosemary Harris and J. K. Simmons were once again wonderful, adding their own great touch to the film.
Sam Raimi is such an interesting director. He really knows how to add together humor, action, romance and drama for a great movie-going experience. It really was a good directing job?and it would probably safe to say the best directed comic book film to date. He used visual effects to propel the story, not just making it eye candy but really giving top notch filming style with seamless effects.
Overall, this film was incredible. It was not absolutely without a doubt perfect, but what film is? There were a few times where campy humor was used, but hey?it is a comic book film and campy humor fits nicely?and not in a bad way. From start to finish I was entertained and surprised. It was in no way predictable and held me on the edge of my seat?and smiling like a child every time I got to watch Spidey swing through New York City.
If you are looking for a good time at the theater this summer, this film is a must see. I loved it and can?t wait to see it again.
Bow down my friends... it's just that good. - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Sequel? The thought first made me cringe, a reaction that perfectly warranted. I can name barely a handful of sequels that were in equal balance to their predecessor, even less when it comes to pretentious Comic/Superhero films whose only intent is to exploit CGI... the latter would include X Men 2, The Crow (City of Angels), and debatably Batman Forever (Can't say Returns was very appealing, but Walken and DeVito are just novelties).
When you watch SpiderMan2, you realize there has been an absolute throw off in the balance, for it's evident... it's better. After seeing this film, you'll bow your head in shame to the prequel and boggle your mind, wondering why it took so long for this masterpiece to be produced; though it's obvious. Good things happen to those who wait, and this is most definately a very good thing.
The visuals are absolutely stunning, and no longer are you going to narrow your eyes at the horrible editing as we saw in the first Spider Man, where the 'web slinging' and 'swinging' were horrendous, maybe even laughable. Here, you tend to be mislead, maybe even persuaded to believe this is realism at it's best. It's very convincing, but do not fear, for this is not a CGI exploit (well, we can argue that point). Read on.
The dialogue and performances easily equal to the action and graphics, so were not yet reminded of the idiots who casted in Star Wars, where every speech and conversation is muttered by daft nits who couldn't act their way out of a paper bag (Hell, Star Wars is the type of film that would even accept stiff, monotonous boards of wood like Keannu... bastard). Tobey Maguire and Dunst manifest such a keen chemistry and that was ultimately lacking in the first film, and it is this chemistry that does indeed draw sweet reactions from the audience, maybe even a few tears for you sensitive folk (The type who shed tears during Edward Scissorhands).
Now, there's another element that is absolutely paramount in this case... the protagonist, or as Comic Book fans know by now, the Villain. Doctor Ock lacks the over the edge acting like the Green Goblin does, but unlike the unmemorable Osborne, the Ock leaves a lasting impression. This character has feelings, and can easily be related to from all angles, in fact, he and Peter both share that 'everyman' persona. It's urgent that we see one of the easily unearthed morals here, the gift of choice.
Of course, none of this would be possibly without the absolutely brilliant direction of Sam Raimi (Yes, you heard me. The same man who brought us the cult classic Evil Dead series). Spider Man 2 is without a doubt, this Sam's Ark, and we are more then willing to embark.
The story is basic enough, but it's laced with so many classic elements were are reminded of the provenance of the entire franchise, the Comics. Romance, adventure, action and thrill, this is a movie for all audiences.
Now, one thing I've gone and done often here is relate this film to other "Comic book" movies, which is infact a sin if ever there was. Spider Man 2 is not a comic book movie... no, it's far more complex and far more worthy. So, think this not as one of the finest Comic movie ever (For in visuals, acting, and directing, it does in fact, out do the long time 'champion', Superman)... but think this as one of the best movies of the summer, simply dub it as what it deserves.
Priceless, innovative, enticing... this is a movie for the ages. Spider Man 2 is; no, pardon me. Spider Man, through out all of it's premature themes and bluntless, can be classified as one of the best movies this year.
Editors Note: If you don't laugh or at least snicker at J.K Simmons' performance as Jameson, then you are inhumanly cold and should be sedated for you have little place in the world.
(Pardon any spelling mistakes, especially with Characters... I tend to disregard such technicalities).

Huge action! - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
theres no doubt that this was the best action film of the year! A perfect sequel. some comic book fans were very dissappointed! I don't know why they said that! It has revealing secrets! It's equal or even better than the first! The scen on the train is amazing! the film is funny too! It's just irressistible!
Comic fans vs. mainstream america - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Okay, if you're a comic book fan (especially a Spidey one) you're going to have some problems with this movie. Without giving anything away, be prepared to see Spider-Man 2, but don't expect to see Spider-Man.
I think Sam Rami, who is a Spidey fan, has gotten lost in the whole "Peter Parker Angst" saga of Spider-Man (I blame the critics from the 1st movie who seemed to forget that it was a comic movie and categorized it as a Romance). The great thing about the comic was that it could give you some human emotion, while providing a kick butt action-story around awesome villians. Spider-Man 2, however, is just a romance story with a bit of action on the side. As a girl who loves comics and action movies, I hate to say this, but Spider-Man 2 is a chick flick!
God, how much, "MJ I love, you. No, I don't. Yes, I do." do I have to listen too. The comic knew when to quit with this. The movie does not, and makes this the main part of the story. Yes, Peter is pathetic. We know, we know- stop already!
But, anyways, the special effects were great and you'll never want them to stop in place of "Peter do you love me? I know you do. Do you? Peter, you know you love me."
The set-up is good for Spider-Man 3. Possibility of having 2 villans.
Spider-man 2 - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Anther good sequel! Filmmakers for Spider-Man 2 did a perfect job! It was a blast watching this movie! This second installment is just as good as the first one. I have to say that the second had better romance between Peter and Mary Jane. I also thought that it's kind of similar to Superman II. You see. Superman gives up his powers to love a mortal. Same with Spider-Man, well not really the same, but very similar. You'll still have a blast.

Amazing spider-man - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Sam Raimi did a great job in interpreting the sequence in the comic book to the big screen. He did justice to Stan Lee and the rest of the house of ideas at Marvel.
Tobey was an excellent actor.
The movie was really worth watching and I cant wait to own it on DVD.
Hope you guys appreciate this spectacular masterpiece
The end..just the start - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Overall better than Spidey 1. Good, consistant threads in the movie. More quality to the charactors, they are fleshed out. Great last ten minutes of the movie. Bring on the Spidey 3 !!
Sam raimi...plse read :) & others - fair review - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
The positives of this film--SPIDER-MAN 2:
Visually, the special effects are well-done and dramatically appealing. There shouldn't be anyone complaining in this film that the effects were cartoony (which some said re: the original). It truly does soar, and it will give you chills.
The story: more complex and paced solid than the original. For the 3 people in the world who missed the first film, you get a review. Though some might say that this is unnecessary and excess on the filmmakers part, I disagree. What the filmmaker is trying to say is, we all as human beings live on through tragedy, but tragedy and its effects does not leave us. We can't simply shed the tragedy like an excess skin. It is part of who we are. It gives the foundation on which to build further and highlight the characters' growth.
The villain: the hospital wake-up scene of Doc. Ock is truly great, with Sam Raimi displaying his expertise in horror film-making.... Truly an eerie and frightening look at what evil can do if it is not tamed.
A great match-up for Spidey, but, and this is the part I really liked upon rumination, that the story of Spider-Man 2 isn't focused so much on the villain nearly as much as it was on Peter's own life, and the battles he has to deal with regarding himself and his environments.
The villain is one we might sympathize with. At the beginning of the film, I realized that this Doc Octavias might easily be a neighbor; he didn't have the look of a madman...which is what made the character believable and interesting.
Love life: Stays true to the original but expands on what has originally happened. There's something that happens that I shall not say (to avoid giving away a spoiler), but let's just say the possibilities of future stories expands significantly, and, I felt, becomes even more interesting and even fascinating.
Negatives:
A lot of similarities to the first film but with layers that run deeper in this film. A lot of reminiscing to the first film which I'm sure was meant to continue building on the foundation (but it borders on being repetitive, but if it does weaken the overall film, it is easily forgiven).
My only complaint is a small one, but I would've wanted the story to be more serious, perhaps similar to X-Men & X-Men 2 (the latter being arguably the best comic book adaptation ever). There are several scenes where things happen to Peter Parker (i.e. tripping over himself or going to grab a drink at a high social event and, of course, someone grabs the item just before he does [and this happens several times])... Although this got the audience to laugh, I felt the result is a pulling away from the character and story. It seems to me that with all the other things happening to Parker, not rubbing in his bad luck would not diminish the film.
The other thing is the use of main characters in Parker's life to threaten and terrify Parker. As it is, Aunt May and MJ should consider moving out of NYC. They've both had the most terrifying of ordeals with some of the most powerful evil minds NY has ever seen. Sometimes, things in comic books seem too well-placed or approach being unbelievable because of synthetic timing and too-convenient encounters. If I had been directing this film, I would've used an innocent bystander to be Doc Ocks hostage, not Aunt May (though it was a great scene, and I did feel concern for her as well as Spidey's anger at not being able to get to her). I understand the concern to draw people in, but with some work, this could be just as easily done with a regular bystander. If the focus had been placed on Doc Ock and Spidey only, could that story arc have been just as satisfying?
Highlights: (Spoilers ahead; avoid if you want to enjoy and see afresh at the movie theater)
The train rescue was powerful and truly showed us the potential abilities of a man endowed with arachnid powers. It reminded me that he is clearly not a Superman, yet the feat he performed was truly as noble and showed his amazing strength (he can, after all, lift up to ten tons of weight).
The hospital scene in which Dr. Octopus awakens from unconsciousness. Truly worth seeing twice just to see that scene again.
The police cruiser is thrown into the air and about to fall upon a corner-full of people when it stops in mid-air.... Truly neat stuff.
A great movie, definitely above average, and yes, we seem to get a glimpse into film 3, though I wouldn't be so sure that the villain will necessarily be Green Goblin 2 (or, as Spidey-fans already know, the Hobgoblin). My bets are that it will be either Lizard or Hobgoblin (if not both); my hope, though unlikely, is to see Venom (nothing, afterall, is potentially greater than seeing a spider that hunts other spiders).
If you care to dialogue about this film or other films, feel free to email me. I'm Sean Russell Strickland, and my email is ****.com
Take care! And as Stan Lee would say, Excelsior!

D - for dumb humor - Wedding Crashers Reviews
I am simply let down everytime I get talked into going to an american made comedy. Who's rating these comedy movies... post pubescent boys and girls? I guess if you think bare breasted women, stupid cliches' and just plain dumb writing is funny... more power to you. I'll stick to the foreign comedies, until Hollywood can produce something more funny than this type of garbage.

And you thought one was bad!? - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
So I WAS excited to go see Spiderman 2 with my friends on the night it came out...saw some great reviews and I was ready...
Then I saw the movie. NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I BEEN MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT GETTING PEOPLE TO NOT SEE A MOVIE. I came home and first thing wrote this review to be posted.
If I had to consume as much cheese as was in this movie I would need a triple bypass. The most amazing thing about this movie was the end, when my friends and I bonded with our fellow movie goers (who we didn't know) in ripping this movie to shreds (though we left the guy in the costume watching the movie alone...weirdo).
I always knew the job of movie reviews was a bias job where they picked and choosed the artsy movies over the teen-comedies not realizing that a teen-comedy isn't supposed to make sense. But seriously, NEVER BEFORE HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE FAILED THEIR JOBS WHEN THEY GAVE GOOD REVIEWS TO THIS MOVIE! The Tribune and the Globe need to start fire people now, cause movie reviewing was just made as respectable a position as the guy who cleans up after the horses in central park but doesn't get to drive the buggies. These people just destroyed a profession we already knew to be nonsense by enjoying a movie so poorly made that more intellect went into writing thier worthless reviews of it.
Here is the low-down:
Visually Interesting
Poorly Written
Bad Acting (when will people realize TM sucks)
Drags on like an old muffler
The last 15 mins is only worth seeing.
ALL IN ALL...MY TRIPS TO THE BATHROOM WERE MORE INTERESTING!
This movie drags... a superman rerun - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
This movie is a remake of an Superman II (1980). I found myself turning on my cell phone to check the time as the movie dragged on. I have never written a review, but this movie was so extremely dissappointing given my expectations, I decided to post.
Overhyped, high expectations, low results - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Ok, I just got back from Spiderman 2, which was deemed quite possibly the greatest superhero action movie ever-but it's not. It was terrible and I will tell you why.
Story: Nothing too complicated in the story. But it's the same thing as the first spiderman. I won't tell you how, or else that ruins the movie, but it's virtually the same action storyline; however the romance is more and less than 10% of the movie is action...kinda slow.
Acting: wow! it was terrrrrible. Tobey Macguire-stick to horses, I believe them more than I believed you. Kirsten Dunst--not only is she not that pretty, they didn't do anything to make her look any better AND she can't act...she was in Bring it On, remember? Nobody else was good or had a good performance.
Direction: So many glitches in this movie. Such bad editing. It makes me want to put my face in my pillow and scream. Spiderman swings his web -- when there's nothing above him except clouds. Also, screenplay was bad. Real bad. The last line of the movie made me want to puke.
Visuals: Good thing I watched this movie at the Fox theater in LA or else this would have gotten an "F" grade also. Computer animation was fair, at best. The web looks real, but it attatches to nothing half the time.
Overall: Well, they claim the movie is set in New York, however there's no locations in the movie that were actually like New York. Many glitches in the movie. Should be nominated for worst attempted comedy/action movie.
Only see this movie if somebody gave you $10 and 2 hours, 3 min of day. Make sure you get popcorn because it'll be more interesting than the movie.

One of the greatest superhero movies of all time! - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
"Spider-Man 2" is every bit what I imagined from that magnificent theatrical trailer- the greatest trailer ever in my book! This is a movie so jam-packed with emotion, character and thrills you'll need multiple viewings just to take it all in. It really has everything- even a mild horror sequence involving Doctor Octopus's tentacles! And see, I'm not an avid "Spider-Man: fan. In fact, I thought the first "Spider-Man" was sort of weak. The villian wasn't menacing enough- and definitely pales in comparison to this film's- and the ending sucked tremendously. But there was plenty of that first movie I admired and enjoyed enough to give the film a solid ***-star ranking, or an A-...whichever grading system to choose. I liked the first film's overall energy, and its style. I also LIKED the characters of Peter Parker, Mary Jane and Harry Osborne (the three main ones, but the list goes on), I just didn't think the movie dealt with them the way I feel they should have. And I don't read the comics so I wouldn't know how it really does, if they changed it at all...it just felt wrong.
With this sequel, I won't ever hesitiate toput anything other than ****-stars, A+, THUMBS WAY UP, next to my review- because it isn't just an awesome moviegoing experience that everyone should have, but it's a genuinely GREAT film that if it got rid of the action sequences it would still be exhilerating to watch. I loved this movie from the first frame, how it used the medium Spider Man was born in, comic books, and catched us up on the events of the first film with comic book drawing around the webbings and the credits. That was brilliant right there. Original and fresh, and it really gets you ready for what you are put into.
What really makes this film, is the minor moments...the soft spoken dialouge scenes between characters. I actually feel like some audience members may get a bit weary of all the talking in this movie (which I'd estimate to be around 60%)...but the action is so mind-boggling and awesome that you just don't care. And that's only if all you want out of this movie is exciting action, if you hope to see a really great movie then this movie will REALLY succeed.
The CGI in the first movie was sort of weak, it looked a bit cartoony, but I still enjoyed it. It went along with the light-hearted, fluffy feel of the movie. This film is decidely more dark and menacing, and the CGI is bolder and snazzier because of it. Starting with the villian, whom in the first movie was wonderfully played by Willem Dafoe, although the outfit was just silly. There wasn't anything scary about it...it was goofy looking, especially when he carried on conversations with Spider-Man. There is a key to perfect villians and that is that they should always actually feel like they could win against the hero. Doctor Octopus really brings that to the table. More so than any other scene, the subway fight scene. That whole fight will blow you away, it's tough and well-done. The CGI seemlessly blends together with the real cast stunts...it's the best action sequence.
The CGI isn't the only part stepping up its game considerably for this sequel, the cast does as well. I was impressed by Tobey Maguire in the first film...he was really good as Peter Parker. He is equally impressive this time around. Same goes for James Franco as Harry Osbourne, I like how this time, however, he is less stiff and depressed acting (at least in the first half). When it shows him around the office, and actually throughout the whole movie, it feels like he is really evolving as a character. We see the path Harry is headed, and the ending really points it out. But really, the person who really does more with their character this time around is Kirsten Dunst.
In the first movie, Mary Jane was more a secondary figure, just sort of "there" to be a love interest and damsel in distress- in this movie she is WAY more. In this movie she is more complex, she is dealing with her own issues and it makes for a more rounded character we can like more and root for more.
And Alfred Molina one-up's Willem Dafoe big time here. Doc Ock is a more menacing, scarier, more interesting villian to watch. I liked how the film set up Octavious as a real good man early on, before he becomes Doc Ock. The first film did this for Norman Osbourne too...but he turned into a more one-dimensional villian, Doc Ock has more substance. He poses a way bigger threat to Spider-Man, he is more interesting...he's better. I also loved how the tentacles had a mind of their own, they get angry and pull back and almost hiss at things that go against them, are negative towards them. They are almost the true villains of the movie, Molina is just the face we can get to know that talks amongst the characters. Even still, he is still one of the best superhero villians, no- movie villians of all time.
"Spider-Man 2" is better than the original in every way. The ending is A WHOLE LOT BETTER! This movie ends happily while still setting up another potential sequel, and it works how they set it up, it isn't just thrown in there for insurance reasons. They could go that way for the next movie, or hold it off for another sequel...either way, I can't wait. "Spider-Man 2" is the second greatest superhero movie I've ever seen behind "Batman Returns". And I've figured out something, the one "something" that makes or breaks and superhero movie. It has to be about characters, not a gimmick, the superhero's powers or whatever. "Batman" and "Batman Returns" is good because its about the characters, "Batman Forever" and "Batman & Robin" suck because they are all about flash and cool action and don't delve into the characters at all. "The Hulk" was excellent in my book because it was about the characters, not just the Hulk running around smashing things going "grrrr....argh....". "Daredevil" was about his relationship with Elecktra more than the Kingpin and the action sequences. That's what makes great superhero films. "Spider-Man 2" is about the characters, we listen to them, we care about them and that's what makes the action exciting, exhilerating and fun- we don't want to see any of these characters we care for get hurt. This is indeed bigger and better than the original, and any other comic based film ever made.
What is everyone thinking.... - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
I saw this movie last night....
I made fun of it all the way through. Give me a break, the mentle breakdown of Pater parker was sooo painful to watch. I was bored throughout.
There were some pretty cool scenes. The hospital, the coffee shop, and the air fighting... good times. But sadly, the action scenes with excelent CGI could not save this horrible plot, story, acting and Kristin Dunst... i was so hoping she would die....
Please make sure the critic saw the movie before believing the post. I think all these "good reviews" are just scams.
This is my first post.
Pushed all the right buttons - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Despite a faulty theater, which sound crashed early on and some annoying viewers behind me I came out of this movie amazed at how superb it was. They did a great job putting this movie together and the result is anything but. Go see it and just let yourself be swept away by the action and suspense.

Captivating romance in a super-hero film, it works - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
First off, I'll tell you precisely what I thought of the overall film, and then I'll break it down into groups. If you haven't seen the film yet,you may want to skip the "grouping" review as I'll be picking on vital and telling aspects of the film, which would essentially give away all the juicy little secrets in this film. And I'd rather you see it and judge it for yourself. To do otherwise, would really spoil it for you.
OVERALL
Quite an honest rendition of everybody's favourite bad luck hero, and quite honest to the comic storyline of old. Peter Parker, the quintessential "Nerd", the "never-fit-in" "loser" turned superhero.
Like the comic book series, the movie depicts his own personal life going down the toilet as his alter-ego, the Amazing Spider-man attempts to take on all of Manhattan's worries. He loses his job(s), his University grades tumble. He's constantly late and exhausted, and doesn't even have enough money for rent. He even continues to shoot down the ultimate chance for love with his boyhood dream-girl, Mary Jane Watson, in fear that she will become embroiled in his enemies quest to continue to hurt the ones he loves. (A carry-over from the first movie, but also in line with the comic book scenario, a lovely touch).
He becomes a loner, in a 2-bit apartment, continuing his vindication to live up to the last words he remembers his Uncle Ben telling him, "With Great power, comes great responsibility."
But after a while, he realizes that he has lived up to everyones responsibilities except his own.
All this is incredibly revealed to us by actor Tobey Maquire. No one else could've portrayed it more realistically or with more passion. Tobey Maquire IS Peter Parker. One minute you can't help but feel pity for the guy, even when he's forced to take an elevator to the ground floor. And the next minute, you just want to slap him upside the head for constantly shooting down Mary Jane Watson's obvious hints to be together.
Enter Doctor Otto Octavious, a brilliant physicist who has calculated a way to bring self-sustaining energy to the world. Played brilliantly by Alfred Molina, you get the sense that he's a deeply caring dreamer about to realize he can bring great good to the planet. Once again, his character mixes well with the comic book scenario, although when he was introduced into the comic book world some 40 odd years ago, stories were simpler, and brilliant geniuses became mad-scientists overnight. Doctor Octopus was indeed the Hyde to the sentimental Dr. Jekyll of this movie. But not without a complete lack of decency, although human life no longer seems to be a particularly high priority anymore.
Couple that with Harry Osbourne's obsession to get even with Spider-man for supposedly killing his Father, Norman. And you suddenly have Doc Ock playing a hit-man for hire during one of Harry's drunken compulsions.
The acting throughout the whole movie is fantastic and gut-wrenching. The special effects are twice as good as the original, and Sam Raimi continues to get that perfect angle with every foot of film. The plot has some serious flaws, but what all this accumulates into... Is a completely believable story.
MY GROUPINGS - Don't continue if you haven't seen the movie.
SCENES I ENJOYED THE MOST
5. Mary Jane Watson leaving the groom at the altar, as she finally decides, for both herself and Peter, that thier love is worth the risk. That it's better to have one life together, than two half-lives apart. Very touching.
4. Doctor Octopus, finally realizing the error of his ways, becoming the hero in the end by saving the city... Killing him off was a shame.
3. Surprisingly enough, the elevator ride. What other superhero talks about his costume riding up his crotch? Great comic interlude
2. Harry Osbourne drunkenly confronting Peter at the John Jameson Gala. This is the shock that really sends Peter Parker reeling. It's the final kick in the head he needs to give up being Spider-man.
And the #1 scene is a provocatively stunning scene of pure character development, heart and soul.
When Peter Parker finally builds up the nerve to tell his Aunt May an abridged, but honest, retelling of what really happenned the night Uncle Ben was shot and killed. The shame, the guilt, and the genuine shock in Aunt Mays eyes... Beautifully done.
SCENES I REALLY HAD TO GIVE MY HEAD A SHAKE AT
5. Ummm, precisely WHY did Doctor Octavious need his multi-limbed appendages to conduct his experiment? This was never explained to my satisfaction. I understand he needs them to become the arch-villian Dr. Octopus, but that's all it seems they were good for.
4. If Dr.Octupus's mechanical appendages were supposedly impervious to both magnetic and electrical currents, why was he shown to be partially electrocuted by them near the end of the film? (A nit-pick, but valid)
3. Harry Osbourne hearing the voice of both the Green Goblin and his Father. As far as I knew, Harry never took the muscle enhancer that drove his Father insane, nor was it a genetic quirk. And hearing "ghosts" of BOTH seemed a little far-fetched.
2. Well, so much for a secret identity. In the comic book series, it took some 10 comic book years (40 real-life) for Harry, Mary Jane Watson, and a trainload of strangers to have Spidermans true identity revealed to them. It only took one film to do the job here. A little too much "cramming" for my tastes.
And the #1 flaw in the storyline, which may or may NOT be explained come the next film... Is, why is Spidermans powers failing? In the comic book series, this happens at least 2 dozen times over the span of years, but always with an explanation to these lapses shortly revealed thereafter. None here. Nor any explanation as to how he miraculously gets them back. I Guess Doctor Connors (aka "The Lizard" for the next film) will have some serious experiments to conduct on our hapless hero next time out.
Despite those annoying flaws, an extremely superior product to the original, which I also enjoyed immensely. Keep up the good work fellas. (And let's see if Gwen Stacy can get in there next time to really put the conflict into Mary Janes plans for romance.)
It shouldn't be conrinue, spiderman, but worth it. - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
As much as I enjoy Spidey's high-flying Cheez-Doodle swoops through the skyscraper canyons of a digitally rearranged midtown Manhattan, I get no kick from his angst, especially since in this incarnation, as opposed to the '60s comic book version, he's more innocuously depressed than defensively paranoid. The movie's first half is talky bordering on tiresome?endlessly rehashing the same mix of frustrated puppy love, survivor guilt, and identity crisis. Eventually, Spider-Man mixes it up with the villainous Doc Ock , a lunatic physicist controlled by four hissing robot tentacles. As both the mutant spider and the bionic octopus can scuttle up the sides of buildings, the mayhem has a sense of slammin' vertigo that, in its hurtling metal and crashing cornices, gives the impression that Sam Raimi might have preferred to be directing in 3-D.
Scarcely devoid of Raimi's humor, Spider-Man 2 regularly stops to showcase a street singer's toneless rendition of the Electric Company "Spider-Man" song. J.K. Simmons's impersonation of tabloid editor J. Jonah Jameson is pretty hilarious, as is Mary Jane's performance in a Broadway revival of The Importance of Being Earnest. And there's nothing funnier than the hurt on Peter's face when he discovers that, evicted from her Archie Bunker?land frame house, Aunt May disposed of his comic book collection. Given the panoply of Noo Yawk locations, it's undeniably cool that the mad scientist has his lab in Anthology Film Archives. Could he have been driven mad by Stan Brakhage's theory of closed-eye vision or repeated exposure to Ken Jacobs's stereoscopic Nervous System?
Best superhero movie of all time - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
When I first walked into this movie, I wasn't expecting much. I'm not a huge Superman fan myself(well I wasn't then), the first one had been enjoyable but it was nothing special. Actually, the only reason I was seeing it was because my friends were going. And I am glad for that.
The movie starts out wonderfully, and even the opening credits are good, like they're taunting you by making you wait a little longer. The movie starts off, basically where the first one left off, with the same questions unanswered, and problems unsolved. Harry's still searching 24/7 for the infamous Spiderman, and Mary Jane is still confused and torn about Peter Parker. Peter is getting behind in his life, and he becomes unsure about even being Spiderman any longer.
The movie goes on to solve many of those problems, yet create more as it goes along to keep you on the edge of your seat. The effects were amazing, I believed they were real myself. And as for the people who say this movie sucked, I'd have to say they have no evidence to back it up. If you're going to see one movie this summer, this year, or one movie for your whole life, this is, undoubtedly, the one to see.

Simply amazing "my" review - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
This is why they invented movies.
It is a dazzling story of love, loss, adventure, courage, heartbreak, tough choices, and tender feelings with a rescue from a burning building, a runaway train, a world-class villain, and a really great kiss. It is smart and funny and touching and exhilaratingly entertaining. S2 has sensational special effects integrated with a first-rate script and outstanding peformances to illuminate the characters and tell the story -- and to show us something about ourselves. But most of all, this is why they invented movies because director Sam Raimi knows how to make things MOVE.
Few movies have so mastered motion. Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) swoops through the skyscrapers. A train hurtles across a track that just abruptly stops. A car flies through the air. Raimi is all but re-inventing cinematic story-telling before our delighted eyes.
In the first movie, we saw Peter Parker's joy in the powers he developed after being bitten by a radio-active spider. When his Uncle Ben (Cliff Robertson) was killed because he failed to stop a thief, he resolved to devote his life to helping people. And that meant no close attachments because anyone he cared about would be vulnerable to attack by bad guys who wanted to pressure him.
As this movie opens, things are not going well for Peter. Even his Spidey powers can't get those pizzas delivered by the 30-minute deadline when there are people to save along the way. Aunt May's application for a loan to save her mortgage from being foreclosed has been turned down. He is having trouble in school because he doesn't have time to do his homework. His best friend Harry (James Franco) is still angry because Peter won't tell him what really happened the night Spider-Man killed his father. Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst), the girl he loves, is giving up on him because he can't tell her who he really is or how he really feels. He can't even do a load of laundry without making things worse. That Spiderman suit chafes. Spidey can't even sling those webs the way he used to. The last hors d'oeuvre at the party is always snatched away just as he reaches for it. Maybe it's time to quit.
Harry introduces Peter to the brilliant scientist, Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina), whose devotions to his wife and his work are inspiring. Harry is financing the doctor's experiments with fusion energy, so complex and dangerous that they must be conducted with tentacle-like mechanical arms that are controlled by artificial intelligence. But in the grand hubris tradition of myths and comic books, the experiment goes terribly, tragically wrong and the doctor's wife is killed. The four artifical arms are fused to Octavius' spine. Devastated by the loss and overtaken by the arms which move like serpents in the garden of Eden, he becomes a villain known as Doc Ock, stealing what he needs to resume his experiments.
But Harry controls one of those ingredients, and he says he will give it to Doc Ock in exchange for Spider-Man. Molina is brilliant in both incarnations. His kind Doctor Octavius has a glimmer of benign madness. And his Doc Ock shows us the tortured soul that cannot help being thrilled by power. The weakest part of the first movie was the villain, with his dopey mask and over-the-top monologue. But Molina's Doc Ock is a villain for the ages, a man who shows us his real face so we can feel the struggle for his soul.
The comic book elements are all here, with spectacular fight scenes and teen-friendly existential themes. Peter has to struggle with feelings of isolation and and not being understood or appreciated. He is aware of the irony of his working for justice for others when his own life is filled with people who judge him unfairly.
One of the screenwriters was Michael Chabon who wrote a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about comic book creators The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and his rich appreciation for the mythic appeal of the comic book tradition brings vibrance and depth to the story. Spider-Man and Doc Ock have many parallels. Both were granted extraordinary powers through mutations caused by accidents in scientific experiments. Both struggle with their alternate identities, represented in visual terms by frequent use of reflections. Both struggle with devastating losses. In a nice moment that gently underlines and broadens what is going on with the characters, Peter watches Mary Jane perform in a production of The Importance of Being Earnest, in a scene where Cecily talks to Algernon about his pretending to be someone he is not. And a street musician sings the Spider-Man song, at first a little tentatively and off-key but then, as Spidey re-discovers who he is, with more assurance, hitting the right notes.
This is a sumptuous summer treat that succeeds on many levels. It is that rarest of treats, a popcorn pleasure with heart, soul, and insight.
Parents should know that the movie has a lot of comic-book-style action violence, though slightly less than the first movie. Characters are in frequent peril, and some are killed. There is some mild language and some social drinking, and one character abuses alcohol to drown his pain.
Families who see this movie should talk about why Peter Parker would want to stop being Spider-Man. How do we know when to give up our dreams for others? Families should also talk about the statement that "If you keep something as complicated as love bottled up inside it can make you sick" and Aunt May's comment that there's a hero in all of us who allows us to die with pride. Why does Peter feel that he cannot share his real self with anyone? How do we know when to trust someone with our secrets?
I wanted to like it... i really did - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
I went into the theatre on opening night, sat down, and waited to be blown-away by this highly anticipated Blockbuster. Unfortunately, the story dragged, the action sequences were either overdone or redundant, and the editing was often laugh-out-loud ridiculous in places that shouldn't have been funny at all.
I truly enjoyed Spiderman I, the love story was a bit much at times, but the story was interesting and the action was very entertaining. However, of the 5 true action sequences in this movie, 2 were exactly the same as Doc Oc's machine begins to suck all metal toward its core. The train fight scene reminded me to much of other train fight scenes...YAWN...and the scene on the operating table left me wanting more. The only action scene I enjoyed took place at the bank...it was well done.
With that said, the story drug along at an awful pace as well. I glanced down at my watch when I could have sworn the movie had hit the 3 hour mark, and we were only an hour in. The scenes cut way to much and the story goes absolutlely nowhere. The editing was almost hokey at times as it tried a little to hard to draw drama or humor from parts that contained neither.
Like I said, I wanted to like this movie, I really did, but it just turned out to be a big disappointment. I think what made the movie a disappointment in my eyes can be traced to 5 things:
1) the movie needed more humor to enthrall you in the storyline
2) less talking, more action
3) less redundant, more original fight scenes
4) tried less to be a comic book brought to life and more of a movie (you'll see what I mean when you watch it)
5) the action lacked "trueness;" by trueness I mean, when the guy in the operating room was killed by the chainsaw, there was no blood or true fright in the man's eyes...everyone seemed to be running around the operating room because the script said that was what they were to do. Ultimatley, I didn't feel like a part of the movie...only a stranger looking in.
If you can get anything from this review, hopefully I've convinced you to wait until it comes out on video, have a few friends pool their money together to rent it, and don't waste 7 bucks per person. It just isn't worth it.

In my humble opinion... - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Spider-Man 2 is better than its predecessor.
The story starts two years after Peter Parker (Toby Maguire) assumed his role as the superhero Spider-Man. The theme still revolves around "great powers come with great responsibilities." However, Peter must now come face the fact that he cannot juggle all his roles: a struggling student, a friend to Harry Osborne (James Franco) who is still obsessed with the death of his father, a lover to Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) without divulging his secret, a good nephew to his Auntie Mae (Rosemary Harris) without being guilty for his uncle's death, a photographer with the Daily Bugle, a pizza delivery boy, and a superhero.
And then the inevitable happens: superhero stress. This is made worse by an accidental new villain in town, Doc Ock (Alfredo Molina).
The movie is filled with great special effects. The action and fight sequences were well choreographed. The story has also been improved. A teaser of what to expect on the third installment was also been incorporated. The movie was funny at times, the awkward elevator scene was a hoot, but the crowd cheered most at the slapstick jokes.
The two hour long movie was a well spent entertainment machine.

Satisfying to my very soul - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
BILLION KAJILLION STARS!!!! HOLY CRAP!!! I AM NOT KIDDING YOU!! BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!
Ok.. I've caught my breath.
I read Spider-Man comics when I was a kid. Everything in this movie was satisfying to my very soul. I absolutely loved every single scene and every line that was spoken. I almost cried because I was so happy. The story was masterfully crafted. I don't know if there is any more or less action in this than the first movie, but the non-action scenes are just as engaging and impactful as the ones where *****'s going down. Doctor Octopus was pulled off excellently.
I've gone over the critic reviews of this movie and it's obvious that they were not Spider-Man fans of very great proportion when they were kids. They give this movie B's while I sit here, my every single desire having been met, and I feel like I just had great sex.
There is really not very much else to say. One review I skimmed over earlier said it fairly well... it's the most comic-booky comic-book movie to date. It's more than that, though. It's damn amazing... Spider-Man!!!
Roger ebert hit the mark...no spoilers - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
I saw this movie at midnight the day it came out, and I was expecting too see a very good movie. I was wrong- this movie blew anything I've seen in a long time out of the water. When Roger Ebert said it was the best superhero movie he'd ever seen, he was probably right...I know I completely agree with him. The story was incredible, the effects were incredible, and anything else that had to do with the movie was incredible. The music, composed by Danny Elfman, was outstanding. I sat through most of the movie not blinking, because I didn't want to miss anything. When it was over, it had felt like the movie was a lot longer than two hours, but not in a bad way...kind of the way you want to feel after a movie. If you see one movie all summer long, see Spider-Man 2, and see it soon, because once you see it, you'll keep coming back.

Finally - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Finally is the only word I can use to describe it
Harry potter, Shreck 2 And all The rest of the so far summer films I give a D. When comparing to spiderman 2. Every Thing Improved The Visual Effects, Story, Acting a more scary villian. So Far this the #1 Movie of the year I cannot see anyone rating this below B. I recommend this movie to anyone.( Finally A cast and Crew Director and Producer Who's Visions of an excellent film meets the eye of the us the audience).
Awesome!!! - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Starting off from the opening credits, my heart started pounding. That's odd. It doesn't normally do that for the credits. But there amongs the credits are artistically depicted scenes from the first movie. It's bringing back all those enjoyable memories and leads right into the second film.
The characters are deep. The plot is very enjoyable, if not somewhat predictable. What do you expect. We've been reading the comics for years.
Doc Oc is actually believable and the special effects do not overshadow the story. There are just enough effects in fact. Not too many. Not too few. Just right. We want them there, but just to support the movie. Well done!
Even the humor was not too over the top.
I left the movie wanting more, but very satisfied with the what I had been given. We all know what's coming next, but that doesn't stop our hearts from beating from the moment the main feature begins.
It was just ok - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
I had high hopes for this movie. It had too much talking and not enough action. I was getting sleepy at some points. It was nothing but a big love story!! I mean, I don't mind love stories, but I really wasn't expecting it to go that far.
Also, some scenes just didn't make any damn sense, like a little girl pulling spiderman out of danger. How the hell can a little girl have the strength to do that?
I don't get why people are liking this movie. Yeah, the action scenes were wonderful, but the overall story was lame. I hope that the third movie will be better. The first movie was better than this. I think people are giving this movie high ratings because of all the hype. I recommend going to see it, but not with high hopes.
He's back, and he is still amazing.... - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Why is it that Sam Raimi (Director of Spiderman 1 & 2) seems to be the only one who ?gets it? when it comes to making superhero films? Raimi hit a homerun with the first Spiderman film and aside from one bad scene, Spiderman 2 is every bit as good.
The second film picks up about a year after the 1st film ended. Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is living in the city where he struggles to make ends meet with delivery jobs and freelance photography. His crime fighting lifestyle has taken a toll on his personal life and his relationships with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) and Harry Osbourne (James Franco) have suffered. Mary Jane views Peter as a disappointment and Harry has been consumed by thoughts of revenge against Spiderman due to his father?s death. Parker also must take on a new foe named Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina) who has multiple tentacle-like arms fused to his body and a passion for madness. The film follows Parker as he struggles to renew his relationship with Mary Jane and save his friendship with Harry all while living up to the expectations that come with being a superhero.
This film, more than any other, brings a superhero to life. Parker is placed in everyday situations which are complicated for normal people, much less those who are superheroes. The storyline is fantastic and the pace is perfect with a nice blend of action and a surprising amount of effective scenes with nothing but dialog.
The acting is very strong in this film with one exception. Rosemary Harris, who plays the character of Aunt May, is just flat out awful. Every time she began delivering lines I began to cringe. There is one scene in particular which is so bad that I can't believe Raimi left it in. It involves an exchange between her and Parker after a birthday party for him. She sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the other fantastic performances by the rest of the cast. Maguire, Dunst, and Franco all continue to be great as their odd triangle continues to unfold, and Molina is very interesting as the villain, Doc Ock. J.K. Simmons also reprises his role as J. Jonah Jameson and is brilliant; just as he was in part one.
This franchise is on a roll and I have seen nothing this year to derail it as the hands down best superhero franchise so far in cinema history. Perhaps the new Batman film in production now will challenge it, but right now, the Spiderman franchise is the absolute best thing going when it comes to superheroes. This is a must-see!!
Spider man 2 review - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Spiderman is back for his 2nd ride, leaving off from the last film, Harry is eager to get revenge on Spider-Man, Mary Jane is engaged, and Peter Parker would just like to settle down and have a normal life, and the saying "with great power, comes great responsibility" plays the key role in the movies story.
I am a huge fan of spiderman, and coming back from the 12:01 preview i am very pleased on what i saw. I just cant sleep because this movie was outstanding. And just to think that Jake Gyllenhal was about to play spiderman, that would ruin the franchise, because the chemistry between Tobey and Kristen is just so good and they act their characters great together. This is definetly the movie people will be talking about for months to come, so dont miss out. (The Soundtrack is very good aswell).
The sequal is filled with Phenominal Special effects, the introduction of a new character Doc Ock, more choices, and Spiderman is beginning to realize the consequences of the choices he is making. The acting, fair, you should expect the same of what you got out of the first movie, but as for Visuals and Story, Spiderman 2 really stands out with a unique story and ending, and non stop web-slinging action. There may only be only 1 thing i am quite skeptical about, and that would be the feel and presentation. From the first spiderman, every place, every scene has a relativity to one of the charaters. The houses, had that comic "surreal" feel which litteraly put you in the book, but dont get me wrong, this movie does that aswell, but i just feel it could have been better.
This is a movie you cant miss, it is going to set a new Record for both Wensday Box Office opening, and First weekend opening, It will be huge! After watching some dissapointments this summer, such as Day After tomorrow, Troy, and Garfeild, I am pleased to walk in an enjoyable movie and have a positive word about it.
Does it beat the original, well thats for you to decide, with there being more Special effects and action for me, Spider-Man 2 is Number #1 in my books.
Spider-Man. Our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. It is a better thrill ride than the first. It's louder, faster, scarier, and now even romantic. This movie is a movie for everyone. There is a good story which mixes the plot and fights together more than perfect.
Spider-Man 2 leaves off where the first left off. Now Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is showed with real struggles as a teenager. He can't show Mary-Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) the love he has for her. He can't make it to classes. He can't make it to work. All because of his duties of Spider-Man.
Spider-Man 2 isn't just about the fights this time. It's also a truely romantic movie. The movie has you actually caring for the characters more than the first.
Despite it's romance, it is also visited by an evil villan Dr. Octopus (Alfred Molina).
The movie is so good it has you cheering in your seat through the whole movie. I give this movie *****/*****
Spiderman 2 is superb and probably one of the greatest superhero movies of all time, if not the greatest. Everything about this movie is outstanding and not for one moment do you really want to take your eyes off the screen. Without revealing any of the story plot, I can honestly tell you that it is awesome, especially the romantical plot between Peter Parker (Maquire) and Mary Jane Watson (Dunst), Harry Osbourne's (Franco) quest to kill Spiderman, and Dr. Octupus (Molina) trying to capture Spiderman. Dr. Octupus is truely scary, and is a great villain in this movie and the Spiderman franchise as a whole. Every actor was extraordinay in this movie, with each actor accurately portraying the emotions they should feel and also showing style during action scenes. Maquire has shown us before that he is an outstanding actor, and he has shown us again that he has the ability to do it. I dont know what to say about the visuals, except they are the greatest visuals I have ever seen next to Return of the King, and they should be since this movie has a $210 dollar budget. I never wanted to take my eyes off the screen because this movie literally looked that good. Kudos to the director as well, for he did an awesome job directing this movie and graphically making it the way it should look. Dont miss out on this movie....SEE IT!!!!

Forget fahrenpoof--here is a real movie!!! - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Like Fahrenpoof, this movie is fictious--only better. Its direction is compelling and riveting...its effects are unparalleled...it has as many twists and turns as Doc Ock's arms. If you choose one movie to see this summer, go see SPIDEY!!!
Hero's are remembered, but legends never die - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
I caught a early screening a couple days back, heres what i think.
The question, What is a hero? has surfaced many times in films I have seen and finally i saw it in the portrayal of this superhero. This movie is without a doubt the one film of this year that has the full package. It never dissapointed. I was left hanging for more.
I arrived at my screening 3 hours in advance and found out a line was almost 1 block long!. WTF. Well i made through it standing in the scorching nyc sun and got my seat in the center of the theater with the stereos centered on me. Enough of me.
The film opens with a fantastic credit sequence that uses illustrator Alex Ross's beautiful artwork to recap the first movie in pictures. Fantastic drawings. The movie starts of with Peter Parker going back to doing what he does best. That is, be our friendly neighborhood spider-man.
This time around the movie shows more hardships and struggles that peter has gone through. I really felt for this guy. Everyone wants to be Spider-man, but no one wants to be Peter Parker.
Peter is trying to survive his life as many of you know doing his duties as Spider-man and go to school, work, and pay the rent.
This time around i guarntee there will be more of the connection with people and peter parker. Everywhere he goes he ends up getting something bad happen to him. So much goes wrong with Peter Parker and the result we all no is him quoting "Spider-man no more". I love what becomes of this, It shows the realization Peter gets which is, you have to make sacfrices even if it is your dream to do the right thing in this world.
Remember this, because it is what makes our main character stronger.
Eventually Peter becomes Spider-man again because there is a villian around. Doctor Octupus. He is terrorizing the town to do what he wants. He wants to accomplish 'HIS dream'. I wont say just find out, when you watch.
Time for the goodies
This movie was a blast. i enjoyed EACH AND EVERY MOMENT Spider-man and Dr.Ock were on screen. The scenes that come to mind right away are.
1) Spider-man and Dr.Ock at the bank and how it leads up to the top of this building. This is the best action part of the movie. really my heart was going "dum dum" Heart pounding action. Back and forth they went.
2) Spider-man and dr.ock at the train scene. I will say this the action in this scene is truly magical. Spiderman uses the ULTIMATE strength to stop this train from falling off. Beautiful. Dr.Ock is the man in this scene. THE MAN!!!!!!!!!
3) Final Confrontation. Brilliance at its best. A person must realize what is the right thing and choices are made once again. I will tell you this there isnt a mega action fight here. You can say that was the super cool train scene.
The bad stuff
Well there is nothing to degrade this movie . Some scenes dragged a bit. The ending was a pit funny and may i say a little to corny. NOTHING ELSE!!!!.
Charactcers:
- Tobey(Peter)= His progress from the first film is very good. He is less tense i think and i notice how much he likes his role now. You can see he portrays Peter better this time. I love every scene that has something go wrong for him. Not in a mean way, just the way he shows it on screen. His best one liner - " I'm Back I'm Back... MY BACK MY BACK" ahahahah some of you might know this scene was when he has lost strentgh he tries to believe in himself again so he tries to jump from building to building(im back im back) and falls and hits the cars below(my back my back)
Kristen Dunst(Mary Jane)- She is fine in her role. I think i have gotten attached to her in this role so she does what she does. Good job
James Franco(Harry)- HA! This guy is at the peak of brilliance in acting. He has one more film to prove he is the next up and coming hollywood megastar.
Aunt May- This woman who played Aunt May really brought the biggest emotional punch!. I think she is a scene stealer. A SCENE STEALER. I think every line she said made me think about my mother. She is such a importance to Peter and the woman who played her just made me almost teary eyed . What a role. she does a fine job as a aunt and really in the 1st film she was not a great deal to me as a character in the film. BUT here she just makes the film one of the best movies of the year.
DR.OCK!(Alfred Molina)- Let me say Alfred did this job with full confidence and acted in his own way. He did not OVERACT and he did not make Dr.Octupus a overly pompus prick or just plain annoying. He played himself. We have had villians such as Tommy Lee Jones as the two face just piss me off. Dr.Ock he is the meaning of coolness. Now... now... he is not that menacing as he seemed to me in the comics. Till you really tick him off. I liked the conversation he had with Peter in the beginning. I think Dr. Otto was a Hippy it seemed back in the day. His wife and him seemed like it. That just might be me though. His presence is very powerful. Like a T-rex. everytime he seems to be near, you hear the DUM and DUM of the tentacles hitting the wall/ground. Better then William Dafoe i think, but William had to play a tougher villian IMO.
Final Thoughts.
I love the Origin of Spider-man the way he lives his daily life. I thought they showed a good amount in the first film. This movie they show more hardships, struggles, pain and triumph overall. The emotion and drama is what made all the critics love this movie along with the action that is i think almost hardcore and fast paced. The annhilation of the doctors = Hardcore
I have heard X-men 2 comparisons and superman 2 comparision. i think this movie is at moments much more deeper and more darker as X-men 2 was. It settles down alot and lets the life of Peter progress. the part of Dr.Ock coming in makes the movie the 'FUN and action packed drive'.
There is so much more to say but im worn out for now and i proud to say this movie has everything in one film. Secrets are revealed, mysteries are solved and the anticapation builds up even more for the next film. SM-3. The movie can go only 1 way in the next film and I REALLY THINK the franchise with this whole cast needs to be pushed to ONE more just one more film. making it 4. BUT as for this movie i expected it to be one of my best action movies ever. But it ended up being one of my best overall movies ever. The whole package!.
Hero's are remembered, but this Legend will never die
Spidy is back! and with a vengence! - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
I for once would have to agree with Roger Ebert. Spiderman is one of the top two or three greatest superhero movies of all time. Competing very strongly with Superman 1 made in 1978.
Spiderman is fast, explosive and superhuman. While watching Spiderman 2, you completely forget that there are special effects, and you competly dive into the characters. CGI has done a great job, but this is by far the best they have ever done.
The acting, story and action is absolutely fantastic. OH and there are a couple of Suprises that I will not ruin for you.
It is a movie that you can actually take the whole family to and not worry about garbage.
I am usually a pretty tough critic, but Spiderman 2 is one of the best sequals ever made, if not the best sequal ever made.
A MUST SEE!
Comic book fans beware! - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
I don't usually read user reviews, as there is no middle ground in their rating: it's either brilliantly flawless or a waste of time, an 'A' or an 'F', with little time spent justifying the grade. But as a film major, weary of hollywood glitz and an industry spending more time catering to tweens and less time catering to me, I beg of you to take a second and just read what I have to say. Spiderman II did not impress me, although it tried many times. For a film littered with excellent CGI effects, competent actors, and helmed by a satirical director who made a name for himself making low budget cult classics and not studio "tentpoles" , you'd expect my review to be glowing with praise. This is not the case. At 125 minutes in length, Spiderman II is drawn out, uneven, and artificially quirky, not to mention very, very hollywood. Try as they might, Tobey Maguire and Alfred Molina struggle with the script that is admittedly beneath them (David Koepp is sorely missed this time out). Doc Ock is an afterthought, a villian who only moves the plot foward by throwing debris around. His character is never explained, his complex psyche never explored. If you agreed that Willem Dafoe was over the top in the original, then
Doc ock is one seriously scary dude! - Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Let me start off by telling you that I own, and have read, all but three comics and a handfull of annuals of the four major Spider-man titles from 1962 to 1992.
I really enjoyed this movie. There were some slight story ideas that bothered me a tiny bit (things that just didn't happen in the comics) but nothing at all that I really couldn't live with.
There were so many elements of this story that were so true to the history and feel of the series I could forgive some of the smaller things.
Doc Ock is a nightmare for everyone around him. I think on the whole they really went to town on his character and look - fantastic.
Another thing I liked very much about this story is that it is a continuation of the first movie from the opening credits to the end.
In the opening credits they had some very nice artwork in amongst the webs that recapped the major events of the first movie very nicely, and the characters (Yes they got all the actors who played the major characters of the first movie to return from what I could see) had grown in the two years since the events in the first movie.
It isn't like the Batman movies where they keep introducing new people and once they end the movie they do something else (the only person who had any room to grow in that series was Alfred because they kept switching actors with everyone else), this is a continuing story.
Again, they took some ideas from several different books in the series and put them into a pretty good script.
They are even looking into the future as they do this storyline - I can think of two more movies they could do from here, with a third as a possibility. I hope they wait a little longer for one of the directions they've introduced.
Bottom Line - I intend to see this movie at least one more time in the theater. I would recommend it.
